Why Field Paint Only?

OSG Paintball • Jun 30, 2016

BYOP has come and gone once again. Hundreds of players attended, fun was had, and it always leads to the question, “Why can’t we bring our own paintballs all the time?” This is a question we get asked fairly regularly. There are a few reasons for this:

  • It helps create a more consistent experience for everyone. We will not control what markers players shoot, but we can make sure everyone is shooting quality paintballs.  If a new player purchases bad paint that doesn’t break and they shoot each other with it in their private group, those players are less likely to play paintball again. This is the same school of thought that we used in our decision to move to a full thermal mask rental fleet this season. It’s all about making sure the first time players have the very best experience possible.
  • Our field paintballs are fresh and stored properly. It does not break in markers and it breaks on target. We test every skid we received from Empire Paintball to make sure it meets our safety and quality standards. Many fields will claim this is the biggest reason why they are field paintballs only. Guess what? It’s not.
  • The main reason? We need those funds to keep providing the best paintball experience in New England.

We have close to 30 employees, five of them full time. We have a maintenance crew much like a ski resort has a park crew or a mountain bike park has a trail crew. They spend the week building new bunkers, fixing broken ones, and making sure the fields are safe to play. We have constructed a new field every other year for the past 10 years. We create more photo, video, and paintball related content of our players, for our players, than any other paintball field on the east coast…and it’s done in house.  The list goes on and on.

So next time you come to OSG and purchase a case of field paint, look around you. You won’t have to look far to see where your hard earned money goes. Could we operate being a BYOP facility? Yes. Would we be able to operate the way we do and provide the best paintball experience possible? Absolutely not.
